Lisa – member of Blackpink – released new album ‘Rockstar’ last week, and there are some of debating whether it is K-pop or not. On Friday, the question emerged after Lisa, a Thai member of K-pop group BLACKPINK, debuted her lively solo track “Rockstar.” This marks the 27-year-old’s first single since founding her own label, LLOUD, in February.
Kpop or not
According to Lee Gyu-tag, a professor of cultural studies at George Mason University Korea, “Rockstar” is significantly distant from T-pop. He added “K-pop music involves creators from various countries, yet it retains its identity due to distinctive characteristics like its business models, focus on music videos, and the close engagement of singers with their fans. Lisa has not indicated any intention to relinquish her identity as a K-pop star or alter her promotional approach for her new release.” I’m not sure if this issue is critical to the business industries involved, but I don’t believe her fans will prioritize it as their foremost concern.
Making
Rather than linking to her music video “Rockstar,” I’ll include a link to her behind-the-scenes making video.
